Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant looking for a rewarding role supporting young people with additional and complex needs?

We are currently recruiting for a Full-Time Learning Support Assistant to join the Skills for Life department of a Further Education college in the Wirral. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting students to develop their independence, confidence and life skills within a college environment. The role will involve working closely with students who have a range of additional and complex needs, providing both educational and practical support throughout the college day.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students within the Skills for Life department.
  • Support students with a range of learning difficulties, disabilities and complex needs.
  • Assist students to access their learning, activities and the wider college environment.
  • Encourage students to develop independence, confidence and essential life skills.
  • Provide support with communication, social interaction and emotional wellbeing where required.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to ensure students receive appropriate support.
  • Support students during practical activities, trips and wider college activities.
  • Provide personal care support where required, including assistance with personal hygiene, toileting, dressing and other aspects of daily living.
  • Follow individual support plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
  • Promote dignity, choice, independence and respect at all times.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
About You

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Previous experience working with young people or adults with additional needs, disabilities or complex needs.
  • Experience within an education, care, SEN or support setting is desirable.
  • Confidence providing personal care and supporting students with their daily living needs.
  • A patient, compassionate and positive approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
  • The resilience and flexibility required to support students with a range of needs.

Experience of working within a Further Education, SEN school, specialist college, care or support environment would be highly advantageous.
