Salary Scale: £92 - £115 per day (Depending on experience)


Are you a resilient and compassionate Learning Support Assistant looking to support young people with additional needs and help them thrive in education?


GSL Education Hull Branch are currently searching for a Learning Support Assistant to work within a specialist and supportive educational setting in York. We are looking for a patient, adaptable, and committed support professional who is passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and develop greater independence.


The successful Learning Support Assistant will provide personalised classroom and individual support to students with a range of learning and additional needs. We are looking to recruit a Learning Support Assistant who is resilient and familiar with ASC profiles, with the ability to recognise individual communication, sensory, social, and behavioural needs and provide consistent, positive support.



  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with a range of learning and additional needs

  • Assist students with ASC and other SEND needs to access lessons, activities, and wider school opportunities

  • Adapt learning activities and use appropriate communication strategies to meet individual student profiles

  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, confidence, and independence through consistent support

  • Monitor student engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and the wider support team

  • Contribute to a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe and supported

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, Autism, or additional learning needs is highly desirable

  • Familiarity with ASC profiles, including awareness of sensory needs, communication differences, social interaction, and individual behaviours

  • A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting students with diverse and sometimes complex needs

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with the ability to build positive relationships

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

  • An up-to-date CV covering the last ten years (with any gaps explained)

  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to apply
