Learning Support Assistant

Milk Education are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist autism school in Newcastle to recruit a committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistant. This is a full time role starting after the Easter break, with strong potential to continue into the new academic year in September.

Learning Support Assistant Role:

This rewarding position involves supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs. You will work closely with teaching staff and therapists to provide tailored support, helping pupils to access learning in a structured and supportive environment.

Learning Support AssistantKey Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism
• Assist in the delivery of personalised learning plans (EHCPs)
• Support communication and interaction using approaches such as PECS, Makaton or visual timetables
• Help manage behaviours positively, following the school's behaviour policies
• Support sensory needs and help maintain a calm, structured environment
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their development

Requirements:

• Experience working with children or young people with autism or additional needs (preferred)
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• A genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEN
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential
