About the job

The Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS) is looking for an experienced, dynamic and resourceful Learning Mentor to join the team. The Learning Mentor will work under the direct instruction of the Achievement Lead/Closing the Gap Officers/EMTAS teachers, to support access to learning for pupils and improve engagement, achievement and attendance.

The role focuses on supporting and mentoring learners in a variety of settings, including schools, bespoke provision and vocational courses. The Learning Mentor will help develop activities aimed at encouraging and supporting young people, liaise with parents, teachers and other agencies to improve attendance, behaviour and raise achievement.

Responsibilities

• Establish good relationships with pupils, act as a role model, and respond appropriately to individual needs.

• Work well within a team in schools or bespoke settings, providing appropriate learning opportunities and implementing agreed work programmes or practical lessons.

• Select and prepare resources that consider pupils' interests, language and cultural backgrounds, encouraging pupils to work cooperatively with others.

• Engage all pupils in activities, including those reluctant to access mainstream provision.

Requirements

• Able to work part time term time (14.8 hours per week, 39 weeks per year).

• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) is required.

• Appointment is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a Child Workforce Barred List check.

Additional Information

This post is temporary until 31st March 2027. Funding is reviewed annually and it is anticipated (but not guaranteed) that the contract will be renewed upon confirmation that funding has been approved.

This post requires registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) and a DBS check. Safeguarding and Child Protection are key priorities; all staff will support children and vulnerable adults with safety and protection measures.
