Lead Software Application Developer - R&D | West Lothian

Location: West Lothian, Scotland
Position: Lead Software Application Developer
Department: Software & Firmware
Reporting To: Head of Software and Firmware
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent - Hybrid 2 days on site.

Our client, a pioneering R&D company based in West Lothian, is seeking a Lead Software Application Developer to join their growing team. In this critical role, you will lead by example-taking ownership of high-quality application development while mentoring developers and contributing to the technical direction of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and develop scalable, high-performance applications using C#, .NET Framework and related technologies

  • Maintain and enhance existing software solutions to meet evolving requirements

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that aligns with best practices and coding standards

  • Conduct code reviews to uphold quality and consistency across the development team

  • Support the Head of Software and Firmware in defining and maintaining the technical roadmap

  • Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture

  • Champion the use of Agile development methodologies, source control, and modern development tools


Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven application development experience with C# and .NET Frameworks

  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and design patterns

  • Experience with SQL Server or Oracle database technologies

  • Proficient in GIT for source control and familiar with CI/CD practices

  • Practical experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as Azure Boards

  • Hands-on experience with Visual Studio or similar IDEs

  • Strong problem-solving and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and guide developers at all levels

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
