Department: Data & Analytics

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: London

Hybrid: in-office 2 days per week in either our London or Fleet office

Tempcover

Tempcover is at the forefront of the fast-growing, high-volume short-term UK motor insurance market. Our mission is to make car insurance flexible, quick, and easy. We seek an extraordinary analytical leader to join our rapidly growing InsurTech business and drive the next phase of profitable growth.

We're part of RVU, a group of online brands that include: Confused, Uswitch, money.co.uk, and Mojo Mortgages.

The opportunity

This is a rare chance to own the analytical engine behind one of the UK's leading InsurTech businesses. As Lead Portfolio Analyst, you'll design and deploy the models, pricing strategies, and fraud detection logic that directly determine whether the business grows profitably. You'll have genuine autonomy to set your own agenda, a sharp underwriting team around you, and real commercial impact from day one.

About the role

This is a hands on, senior individual contributor role (70%) with people and project management responsibility (30%). You'll bridge traditional underwriting principles with data-driven decision-making, building automated underwriting logic and sophisticated algorithms to help our panel of insurers achieve targeted loss ratios across high-volume, short-term motor policies.

What you'll work on
  • Own portfolio performance monitoring in near real time - tracking KPIs, identifying emerging risks, and recommending action before problems escalates
  • Build and iterate predictive fraud models, using external data enrichment and non traditional signals at point of quote
  • Design and optimise automated underwriting rules and pricing strategies, balancing profitability and risk across the portfolio
  • Identify growth opportunities - expanding our footprint and refining rates with a sharp eye on commercial impact
  • Translate complex models into scalable, production grade decision engines in close collaboration with Engineering and Product
  • Conduct deeper analysis to support product evolution, both for core products and new opportunities
  • Ensure all underwriting strategies remain compliant with FCA guidelines for fairness, transparency, and data usage
  • Line manage and formally mentor a Senior Analyst, focusing on their technical development and project allocation
What we look for
  • Experience in the UK general insurance market, with a strong preference for high frequency motor insurance products
  • Proven track record of building, implementing, and optimising profitable underwriting or pricing strategies - this is the experience we won't compromise on
  • Advanced proficiency in Python or R for modelling and data transformation
  • Expert-level SQL for rapid extraction and manipulation of large datasets
  • Strong communication skills - able to present complex analytical findings clearly to non technical stakeholders
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to balance risk control with fast paced customer experience in a competitive market
  • Experience with visualisation tools such as PowerBI or Tableau
  • Familiarity with cloud based data warehouses such as BigQuery or Azure
  • Knowledge of machine learning concepts applied to insurance, particularly real time scoring and fraud detection
  • Familiarity with WTW RADAR (not essential)

You don't need to tick off everything on this list - so don't let that hold you back from applying. We want to make sure you're learning plenty during your time with us!
