Job Description
Technical Lead Java, Typescript & AWS - £85k, plus bonus and pension
A well-established, socially impactful organisation is building a new product team and hiring a Tech Lead to help shape the future of its service-led platform. This business plays a pivotal role in improving everyday access for people across the UK, working closely with partners, dealers, and service providers. Their systems support high-volume interactions tied to vehicle servicing, MOTs, and maintenance infrastructure and they're investing in a brand-new team to evolve it further.
This is a hands-on dev/leadership role that blends coding, architecture, and informal mentorship. You'll help modernise and consolidate existing platforms while introducing new functionality that aligns with broader service goals. You'll be expected to take ownership of design decisions, support technical delivery, and guide other engineers in a cross-functional team that includes testers, analysts, and a product owner.
The tech stack is primarily backend-heavy, with about 70% of the work in Java (Spring Boot) and messaging technologies, though experience with React and TypeScript is useful, as there are some frontend components. Prior fullstack experience is valued, but a growth mindset is more important than perfect technical alignment. This isn't a box-ticking role, they're more interested in people who are curious, collaborative, and ready to help steer solutions end to end.
You'll be based in either Bristol or Edinburgh, working on-site three days a week in an office 15 minutes from the city centre.
Compensation includes a base salary between £75,000 and £85,000, a performance-based bonus of up to 22%, and a strong pension and benefits package.
