At Sunrock, we've quickly grown into a market leader in large-scale rooftop solar installations across the Netherlands. But we don't stop at solar or the Netherlands. Our ambition includes modern energy management, smart battery storage, and our own energy trading platform. Plus ongoing expansion in Germany and France.
We are committed to driving the energy transition-and we're looking for passionate team members who want to help shape a sustainable future.
The Role
We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Senior Financial Accountant to take the lead in managing the general ledger, VAT and tax compliance, and employee benefits for approximately 50 entities across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France. This role ensures the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of financial reporting processes within the region and provides functional leadership to local finance staff.
Key Responsibilities:
General Ledger and Financial Reporting
- General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local GAAP and Dutch GAAP.
- Month- and Year-End Closings: Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Statutory Reporting: Prepare and file statutory financial statements for all entities, ensuring compliance with local regulations and liaising with external auditors.
- Intercompany Transactions: Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations, ensuring balances are aligned at all times.
VAT and Tax Compliance
- VAT Accounting: Prepare and file VAT returns for all entities, ensuring compliance with local VAT regulations and timely submissions.
- Other Tax Filings: Prepare and file corporate income tax returns and other tax filings (e.g., property tax, energy tax, etc.) in accordance with local laws.
Payroll and Employee Benefits Accounting
- Payroll Accounting: Ensure accurate recording of salaries, bonuses, and other compensation-related expenses.
- Employee Benefits: Manage accounting for employee benefits, including pensions, health insurance, and other fringe benefits, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
- Accruals: Record accruals for employee-related expenses, including bonuses and vacation entitlements.
Functional Leadership and Stakeholder Collaboration
- Functional Leadership: Provide functional leadership to local finance staff in each country, ensuring adherence to standardized processes and best practices in general ledger accounting, VAT & tax compliance, and employee benefits accounting.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with local finance teams, auditors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless financial operations.
Who You Are
We're looking for a sharp finance mind with a commercial edge; someone who can simplify the complex, negotiate with confidence, and bring clarity to innovative energy solutions. If you're fluent in Dutch law, internationally experienced or interested to expand your international experience, passionate about renewables, and ready to co-create the future of sustainable infrastructure, we want you at the table.
You bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., SPD, AA, or equivalent) is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in a senior role overseeing multiple entities. Experience in a senior role at mid-sized to large accounting firms (compilation practice) is a plus.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Netsuite, Oracle), advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with consolidation tools.
- Fluency in English and Dutch is essential; proficiency in French or German is a plus.
- Strong understanding of local GAAP and Dutch GAAP, with experience in statutory reporting and tax compliance in the EMEA region.
- Detail-oriented and disciplined, ensuring high-quality output at all times.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
