Lead Engineer - Java & Spring Boot (Winchester, Hampshire)

What you'll do

• Architect & deliver robust, scalable back end services using Java 21+ and Spring Boot (micro services, APIs, event driven pipelines). Enable clients to run mission critical workloads on AWS/Azure with high availability.
• Lead & inspire a multidisciplinary engineering team (3 7 members). Mentor junior engineers, run regular code reviews, pair programming sessions and technical workshops. Raise the overall technical bar and foster a culture of knowledge sharing.
• Drive best practices around CI/CD, automated testing, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes) and observability. Reduce time to market and improve reliability for customers.
• Collaborate cross functionally with product, data, security and operations teams to translate business goals into technical road maps. Deliver end to end solutions that meet client expectations and compliance standards.
• Champion professional growth organise internal training, sponsor external certifications (AWS, Azure) and support conference attendance. Keep the team at the cutting edge of cloud technology.

What we're looking for

• Technical expertise - 5+ years of Java development, deep experience with SpringBoot, SpringData, SpringSecurity and RESTful APIs.
• Leadership & mentorship - Proven track record of leading engineers, conducting technical interviews and fostering a supportive team environment.
• Communication - Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non technical stakeholders and inspire confidence in clients.
• Agile mindset - Comfortable working in Scrum/Kanban, iterating quickly and embracing continuous improvement.

A plus

• Cloud fluency - Hands on experience deploying Java services on AWS or Azure; familiarity with IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation).
• Containerisation - Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes.
