Job Description
Laser Applications Development Engineer/ScientistOxfordshire£35k-£50k (dep on exp) This highly successful technology company design state-of-the-art laser systems & also provide bespoke laser micromachining services for clients world-wide. They have a new role for an experienced Laser Applications Development Engineer/Scientist to join the Micromachining R&D department. The Laser Applications Development Engineer will develop new laser micro-machining processes & techniques for a range of clients from a diverse range of sectors including medical devices, consumer goods, automotive, semiconductors -and many more. The Laser Applications Development Engineer/Scientist will be working on a new project for the business; using state of the art laser systems on glass-glass and glass-metal micro-welding through glass vias, high aspect ratio zero kerf cutting/micro-drilling - thus experience in these areas is of distinct interest! Any additional experience with wet laboratory techniques including chemical etching on glass would make you the perfect candidate! As this is a new area for the business, there is a distinct opportunity for growth within the business! Requirements:
  • BSc degree or higher in Lasers/Optical Engineering, Physics, Engineering or similar qualification plus equivalent practical experience. (A Laser related postgrad qualification would be a distinct advantage)
  • Practical and hands-on experience with laser applications development
  • Wet laboratory techniques including chemical etching of glass
  • High-speed, high power laser processing with fibre or other DPSS lasers including ultrafast
Knowledge of the following would be highly beneficial:
  • Optical systems design, ray tracing analysis (ZEMAX or equivalent), alignment, machine vision for OEM integration
  • Precision laser micromachining
  • Tailored beam delivery including non-linear optics, adaptive optics, spatial light modulation, diffraction-less beams, other beam shaping technologies
  • Laser beam characterisation
  • Laser glass micro-welding characterisation (shear/vibration/hermeticity testing, thermal cycling)
