Labour Ward Coordinator/Midwifery

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced midwife to manage and coordinate the Labour ward (Delivery suite) at Newham University Hospital, delivering high-quality services to our clients.
We require a midwife who is passionate about managing and coordinating the Labour ward at Newham University Hospital, ensuring optimal use of available resources to provide appropriate and effective cover over any 24-hour period.
The post-holder will be a registered midwife, able to demonstrate higher-level clinical skills and work independently. You will have sound management skills, resilience, and the ability to meet the demands of a busy clinical service. In this role, you will demonstrate a passion for promoting normality, offering women continuity of care to support women throughout their pregnancy journey, as recommended in the Better Births report (2016).
Main duties of the jobThe post holder carries 24/7 responsibility and accountability for their clinical/work area. Ensure safe and effective clinical practice, maintaining current knowledge, skills, and competencies, and act as a clinical expert to disseminate specialist skills and knowledge. Enhance the woman's experience of care, ensuring her needs are central to care delivery. Manage and develop team performance, ensuring staff are prepared, supported, and competent. Contribute to organizational objectives by improving clinical outcomes, productivity, efficiency, and quality. The post-holder is an autonomous practitioner in normal pregnancy, birth, and the post-natal period, capable of detecting abnormal conditions in mother and baby, referring appropriately, and undertaking emergency measures in the absence of medical staff.

Job responsibilitiesAs above, the post holder carries 24/7 responsibility for their clinical area, ensuring safe practice, supporting staff, and managing performance. They must be an autonomous practitioner in normal pregnancy, birth, and post-natal care, capable of recognizing and responding to abnormal conditions and emergencies.
Person Specification Qualifications- Registered midwife
- Proven experience in a multidisciplinary setting
- Experience managing a team/service
- Experience in labour ward
- Experience conducting research, PROMPT course
- Master's degree or working towards
- Examination of the newborn
- Clinical practice within an integrated maternity service
- Organizational skills, flexibility, adaptability
- Proven leadership skills
- Experience initiating and implementing change
- Knowledge of Datix and audit processes
- Experience with waterbirth
- Clinical skills such as cannulation, perineal suturing
- Ability to motivate staff and manage risk
- Understanding of complaints management and service development evaluation
- Degree-level qualification as a Midwife
- Masters or significant post-registration education
This post requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Salary: £51,883 to £58,544 per annum, pro-rata
