Laboratory Technician

The Opportunity

Avantor Services offers on site laboratory services for major pharmaceutical customers. We are hiring a Laboratory Technician for a 12 month contract in Cambridge (CB10). The role is lab based and focuses on delivering scientific technical support to R&D laboratories while meeting Health and Safety and Good Laboratory Standards.

Main Responsibilities

• Stock management - daily consumable replenishment at the point of use, utilising site inventory system.
• Maintenance of lab consumable inventory.
• Handling of cell and sample deliveries.
• Routine decontamination of incubators, water baths, cell counter, class II cabinets, water purification units and other equipment relevant to site.
• Calibration of pH meters and counterbalances.
• Management of pipette inventory and organisation of calibration schedules.
• Aseptic aliquoting of reagents used in tissue culture and basic media preparation.
• Laboratory housekeeping - tidying stock rooms, cleaning sinks, waste management (biological, chemical & radioactive).
• Receipt and unpacking of parcel deliveries, including temperature sensitive items.
• Provide regular glassware and plastics collection, washing and autoclaving/sterilisation services (steam, dry or filtration).

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

• Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively.
• Good IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience working in a laboratory environment.
• Knowledge of SHE requirements in a laboratory environment.
• Flexibility with working hours to meet customer service needs.
