Job Description

The post holder will be expected to provide SHO grade cover on a rotational shift basis throughout Urology. They will participate in the on call SHO rota and supervise FY1s in service delivery, inpatients, and day services. The post holder will provide a rapid response to A&E to facilitate the 4 hour trolley wait target, and during the on call shift will be available solely for emergency duties.

Responsibilities
  • Provide SHO cover on a rotational shift basis in Urology.
  • Supervise FY1s in service delivery, outpatients, inpatients, and day services.
  • Provide rapid response to A&E to facilitate the 4 hour trolley wait target (available solely for emergency duties during on call shift).
  • Undertake outpatient clinics and operating theatre lists as directed by consultants.
  • Participate in the Clinical Governance and Risk Assessment process.
  • Work with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Take part in the care of patients attending the department, including examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Liaise with staff of other departments.
  • Maintain legible records.
  • Assist in audit of various aspects under the direction of the Audit Lead.
  • Recognise own limitations and seek advice from consultants.
  • Perform related duties as required, including additional duties arising from occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances and duties essential for continuity of patient care.
  • Other duties as directed by Consultant in Charge.
  • IT skills essential to support electronic management of patient pathways.
  • Department encourages all junior doctors to be involved in development of guidelines in partnership with other team members.
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent/MRCS.
  • Full UK GMC registration and license to practice.
  • Able to prioritise clinical need.
  • Able to discuss treatment options with patients in a way they can understand.
  • Competent in assessing and managing common urological conditions.
Experience
  • Understanding the structure and functional principles of the NHS.
  • Previous experience in Urology.
Personal Qualities & Attributes
  • Aware of own limitations, consults senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help.

Salary

£52,656 a year (per annum) + London weighting.
