Job Description

Endeavour Recruitment has an opportunity for a Fluent Dutch and English-speaking IT Software Engineering Lead to play a pivotal role in a long-term technology transformation.

Start date: to be discussed/ASAP

Region: Bruges

Hybrid possibilities: 2-3 days on site

Rate: 700 Euros per day

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead, coach, and develop high-performing engineering teams.
  • Take ownership of people management activities, including recruitment, performance management, career development, and where necessary, offboarding.
  • Conduct performance, development, and other challenging people conversations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Ensure the right people are assigned to the right roles based on skills, strengths, and business needs.
  • Foster a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Support the ongoing evolution of engineering practices and organizational maturity.

Profile

The ideal candidate brings a combination of technical expertise and people leadership.

You have:

  • A background as a software engineer or developer with strong technical credibility.
  • The ability to engage in meaningful technical discussions and gain the trust of engineering teams.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching, and mentoring engineering professionals.
  • Strong people management skills with experience guiding teams through change.
  • A forward-looking mindset with a passion for modern engineering practices rather than maintaining Legacy ways of working.
  • The ability to drive organizational transformation while balancing business and people needs.

The engineering landscape includes:

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Java
  • Oracle Database
  • Microservices architecture
  • An ongoing transition towards AI-native software engineering
  • Agile delivery methodologies

The organisation has historically operated within a SAFe framework but is actively evolving towards a more streamlined and pragmatic Agile approach with fewer process layers.

Organisational Context

  • Engineering Leads will work closely together to ensure consistency in leadership, people management, and engineering practices.
  • The roles report directly to the engineering leadership team.
  • Collaboration across teams and alignment on engineering standards and culture are essential.
  • A hybrid working model is in place, with an expectation of being present in the Bruges office 2-3 days per week.

Strategic Importance

  • This is not a traditional Team Lead position. The role combines elements of:
  • Engineering Manager
  • People Leader
  • Transformation Lead
  • Technical Coach

While hands-on development is not the primary focus, maintaining technical credibility is essential to effectively guide engineering teams and support the organization's evolution towards modern software engineering and AI-enabled development practices.
