The ideal candidate will have senior-level inventory management experience, preferably within a defence or military environment, and experience working at headquarters or strategic level. Candidates with previous Quartermaster experience or an equivalent civilian background in inventory and logistics management are particularly encouraged to apply.

You will be responsible for analysing inventory data, developing spares models, forecasting future requirements and providing strategic advice to management. You must be able to understand complex requirements quickly, work independently and ensure inventory levels meet operational needs while managing costs and supply chain risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain spares models to support operational requirements.
  • Interpret spares models and inventory data, including lead times, usage levels and stock requirements, to provide strategic advice and forward planning to management.
  • Conduct spares ranging and scaling to determine optimal inventory levels.
  • Review inventory-related costs and assess cost estimates.
  • Review equipment plans and support obsolescence planning to reduce risks associated with outdated equipment.
  • Forecast future inventory requirements based on operational and contractual needs.
  • Monitor inventory data and work with relevant stakeholders to ensure accuracy across inventory management systems.
  • Coordinate logistics and transportation requirements for inventory delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of Through Life Management Plans (TLMP) and SSDT artefacts.
  • Identify inventory and supply chain risks and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support contract assurance activities, supplier performance reviews and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations and standards.
  • Develop inventory performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define inventory requirements and specifications.
  • Support the development of training and guidance for inventory management processes.

Essential Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate experience in both of the following areas:

Strategic Inventory Management

  • Experience interpreting spares models and inventory data, including lead times and usage levels.
  • Ability to provide forward-planning advice and strategic recommendations to management.
  • Strong understanding of inventory requirements, stock optimisation and asset replacement.

MOD Inventory Management Systems

  • Practical experience using inventory management systems, specifically BWIMS (Base Warehouse Information Management System) and MJDI (Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory).

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience in a senior inventory management, logistics or supply chain role.
  • Experience working at headquarters or strategic level.
  • Military Quartermaster experience or an equivalent civilian inventory management background.
  • Experience managing defence equipment, spare parts and asset replacement programmes.
  • Knowledge of equipment life cycle management and obsolescence planning.
  • Experience reviewing cost estimates, supplier performance and contractual documentation.
