Job Description

We're looking for an Associate Scientist to join the team on a 12-month internal secondment, supporting the development and optimisation of key plant editing pipelines at Tropic.

We are opening up this role as an internal secondment only.

Job Purpose

The Associate Scientist will be working as part of Tropic's Technology Development team, which is a collaborative R&D team. We apply cutting edge technology to enhance our in house crop pipelines, addressing real world challenges in tropical agriculture.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop a diverse set of biotechnology skills in a stimulating and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

The Associate Scientist will be responsible for the day to day running of multiple plant tissue culture experiments. This will comprise approximately 50% lab time and 50% management, though this will flex week on week. Full training in experimental tasks will be provided.

Laboratory
  • Completion of experimental tasks to a high standard
  • Clear and timely recording of data
  • Clear communication of experimental progress in weekly 1:1s with Research Scientist
Management
  • Management of experimental logistics
  • Liaisons and alignment with other departments
  • Presentation of results to a range of stakeholders
Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic Associate Scientist with a positive and flexible attitude to support the delivery of R&D projects at Tropic.

Essential
  • Educated to BSc level in Biology, or a related subject, with genuine interest in our technology.
  • Proven track record of following established procedures and keeping accurate records.
  • Once trained, able to work on and troubleshoot routine procedures independently, with a desire to work to a high standard.
  • Excellent communicator and team player, able to give and receive feedback openly.
  • Adaptable to changes in a dynamic environment, able to manage own workload accordingly.
  • Ability to assess and apply methods from literature to optimise processes.
Desirable
  • Experience in high throughput, non model plant experiments in a research setting.
  • Experience presenting experimental work to stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work dynamically across multiple work streams/projects.
  • Strong knowledge of gene editing technologies.
