Job Description 2-Month Contract With a Local Authority Summary

This role involves providing practical and proactive contract support to the Legal and Compliance team. The position is crucial for assisting with the preparation, review, administration, and coordination of contracts. It ensures that contracts are managed efficiently, consistently, and in compliance with university policies and procedures, while supporting Legal and Compliance staff across a wide range of contract-related matters.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of contracts across different university departments, including procurement, partnerships, and estates.
  • Provide clear advice on contractual risks, available options, and appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Lead or support contract negotiations as required, ensuring outcomes align with university policies and objectives.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date contract records, including managing the central contract register.
  • Liaise with academic and professional services staff to progress contract matters efficiently and effectively.
  • Undertake legal research as required and monitor relevant legal, regulatory, and sector-specific developments, advising on their potential impact.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external contacts, delivering a high-quality, responsive legal service.
  • Experience in general commercial contract law, including drafting and reviewing agreements.
  • Demonstrable ability to assess contractual risks and provide practical legal advice.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Essential Qualifications
  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 1 year Post-Qualified Experience (PQE).
Additional Information
  • Working hours: 21 hours per week.
  • Work pattern: 3 days/21 hours per week, fixed term for two months, 1 day per week (Wednesday) on site.
  • We operate on a bi-weekly schedule.
