Job Description

The Ontario Mutual Insurance Association (OMIA) is searching for a Full-Time Insurance Product Research & Development Analyst to be part of the Product Research & Development Team. OMIA offers a hybrid work environment; this role offers up to 3 days remote work each week.

In this role, you will report to and collaborate closely with our Manager of Product Research & Development. You will also collaborate regularly with OMIA colleagues, our member companies, and other external third-party stakeholders on a variety of projects and initiatives. While a breadth of knowledge and experience in multiple lines of insurance is preferred; this role will have a special focus on Commercial and Farm risks and their respective product policy contract wordings and business support documents and publications.

Work Experience

You have approximately 7+ years of experience in the P&C insurance industry in either underwriting, claims coverage review, risk assessment, or broker/agent experience with a good understanding of coverage assessments of policyholders and insurers. You have experience with policy contract wordings and consider yourself a wordsmith who is analytical with strong attention to detail. Your experience in customer service and project management enables you to stay focused on assigned projects, but you're able to be flexible if there is a sudden change in priorities.

This role requires both independent work and work in a collaborative team environment within OMIA and with other company stakeholders.

In this role, your responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:

  • Working on various projects related to all lines of insurance in the P&C industry, with a special focus on farm and commercial risk exposures;
  • Creating, developing, and maintaining insurance forms, supplemental applications, policy and endorsement wordings, and accompanying risk selection and underwriting guidelines, publications and training materials used by OMIA members impacting business risks;
  • Conducting competitive market research and analysis on industry trends relating to insurance products and the P&C insurance industry;
  • Assisting member companies and the Ontario Mutuals community to assess risk appetites, business needs, and product offerings via member roundtables and strategy committee support;
  • Providing customer service (via all communication methods) and acting as a liaison with members and other various stakeholders, especially our reinsurer;
  • Interacting with various departments internally and externally such as: Underwriting, Sales, Marketing, Claims, Loss Prevention, Distributors, Policy Administration Systems Vendors, Reinsurers, and more;
  • Staying current on industry trends to help provide or create new information, tools, and/or services to member companies; and
  • Communicating and responding efficiently and effectively to member companies and stakeholders on underwriting or risk selection inquiries to provide support as needed.

  • Ability to prioritize, be flexible, and work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced work environment, and
  • Effectively use Microsoft Office 365 products at an intermediate level (ie. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Forms).
  • Note: this role does not involve actuarial pricing skills or analysis.
Education

In considering candidates, the following educational background or equivalent employment experience will be of benefit.

  • Post secondary education (College Diploma or University Degree)
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Designation or FCIP
  • Commercial Insurance Certificate (Insurance Institute of Canada)
  • Canadian Risk Management Certificate
Salary Range

$84,000 - $105,000

Work Environment and Work Travel

Due to the geography of our member companies and annual events, occasional corporate travel out of the region will be required (up to 5 days annually). Access to your own vehicle is ideal. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
