Job Description
We are currently recruiting for an Interim Insurance Manager to work with a Local Authority in East Anglia. They are looking for an experienced insurance professional to provide additional expertise and capacity across their shared Insurance Service, with an initial focus on the underwriting function and support for upcoming major insurance procurements.

Rate: Negotiable (Inside IR35)
Key Responsibilities:
- Contributing to the strategic development and delivery of insurance services across a multi-authority shared service
- Advising on insurance programmes, risk financing strategies and complex insurance matters
- Supporting the procurement and tendering of major multi-year insurance contracts, including specification development and technical evaluation
- Acting as a senior technical advisor on insurance, risk, liability and indemnity matters
- Managing relationships with insurers, brokers, actuaries, partners and external organisations
- Providing expert guidance on underwriting matters and acting as an escalation point for complex cases
- Supporting senior stakeholders, including Directors and Section 151 Officers, with high-impact decisions involving financial and organisational risk
- Reviewing insurance arrangements to ensure value for money and appropriate financial protection
- Supporting the Head of Insurance and deputising where required
- Driving continuous improvement and supporting the development of colleagues within the Insurance Service
Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting and insurance programme structures
- Strong understanding of public sector risk financing, insurance markets and fund management
- Experience managing large-scale insurance programmes, renewals, tenders and complex policies
- Experience leading negotiations with insurers and brokers
- Knowledge of public sector insurance procurement and application of procurement legislation
- Ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders on complex and high-value insurance matters
- Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate independently and manage competing priorities across multiple organisations
- Experience within local authority, public sector or complex insurance environments is highly desirable
- Evidence of continuous professional development, with professional insurance qualifications desirable
