High School Instructional Coach

Job Summary

The High School Instructional Coach supports teachers and administrators in improving instructional practice and student achievement. The coach works collaboratively with educators to strengthen curriculum implementation, instructional strategies, assessment practices, and data-driven decision-making. This is a non-evaluative role focused on professional growth, instructional excellence, and equitable outcomes for all students.

Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Support
  • Partner with teachers to plan, model, observe, and reflect on high-quality instructional practices.
  • Support implementation of district-adopted curriculum, instructional frameworks, and academic standards.
  • Model effective teaching strategies, including differentiation, scaffolding, culturally responsive instruction, and student engagement techniques.
  • Assist teachers in designing rigorous lessons aligned to learning objectives and assessments.
Professional Learning
  • Facilitate individual and small-group coaching cycles focused on instructional improvement.
  • Design and deliver professional development sessions aligned to school and district goals.
  • Support professional learning communities (PLCs) by guiding data analysis, lesson planning, and instructional reflection.
Data and Assessment
  • Support teachers in analyzing formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and refine assessments aligned to standards and learning targets.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress and identifying instructional adjustments to address learning gaps.
Collaboration and Leadership
  • Collaborate with school administrators to align coaching efforts with school improvement plans.
  • Serve as a resource for instructional best practices, research-based strategies, and instructional technology.
  • Support new and early-career teachers through mentoring and instructional guidance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and trust within coaching relationships.
Equity and Student Achievement
  • Promote instructional practices that support diverse learners, including English learners, students with disabilities, and advanced learners.
  • Support implementation of inclusive and equitable instructional practices.
  • Advocate for student-centered learning environments that promote academic success and well being.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • Valid secondary teaching credential/license.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of successful high school classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective instructional practices and curriculum implementation.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with adult learners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Previous experience as an instructional coach, department chair, mentor teacher, or teacher leader.
  • Experience supporting professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Knowledge of data-driven instruction and assessment practices.
  • Experience supporting diverse student populations.
Working Conditions
  • Works primarily in a high school setting, including classrooms, meeting rooms, and professional development spaces.
  • Regular classroom observations and meetings with teachers during the school day.
  • Occasional evening or after school commitments for professional development, meetings, or school events.
  • Requires mobility to move throughout campus and classrooms.
  • Position may require district-level meetings or travel between sites, depending on assignment.
