Jisc grade: TNE3 (internal use only)

Hours: 35 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Location: Hybrid - a blend of working from home and from nominated hub offices in London, Bristol, Manchester, and Oxford. Specific patterns are flexible and agreed with your manager. Occasional travel to hubs may be required.

About the team and the role:

We develop new products to meet current and future needs of our members and provide technology leadership. The technical resources are primarily within our Group CTO directorate, supporting Jisc's digital vision.

This critical role is within Workplace IT, in the Cloud and Connectivity team, responsible for developing and maintaining core platforms on cloud and on-prem infrastructure to support customer-facing activities.

You will play a key role in building, deploying, evaluating, and maintaining Jisc IT infrastructure using the latest technology, ensuring efficient and seamless IT system operations.

This role can be at Infrastructure Engineer or Senior Infrastructure Engineer level, depending on experience and skills.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Working with the infrastructure architect to deploy infrastructure solutions aligned with business needs and technological advancements.
  2. Implementing security measures such as firewalls, encryption, access controls, and conducting vulnerability assessments.
  3. Automating infrastructure setup and management through scripting and coding for efficiency and consistency.
  4. Monitoring system performance, resource utilization, and setting up logging to identify issues proactively.
  5. Managing upgrades, migrations, and integrations with minimal service disruption, coordinating with teams and stakeholders.
  6. Maintaining detailed documentation of configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Key Skills and Experience:

  1. Experience with tools supporting Jisc Technologies, such as monitoring, logging, and backup tools.
  2. Strong Linux focus and experience with Chef is essential.
  3. Experience with at least one of Jisc's core technologies: M365, Teams, Exchange, Intune, Azure, AWS, VMware, Commvault, Cisco Firewalls, or Meraki SD WAN.
  4. Teamwork experience and ability to create documentation and provide technical guidance.
  5. At least one professional qualification in Jisc Core Infrastructure technology or relevant experience.
  6. ITIL v4 Foundation certification.
