Job Description

Our Client, a Merseyside council is seeking a Children's Independent Reviewing Officer to join their Team.

Responsibilities of this role:

  • Chair statutory reviews for looked-after children, ensuring care plans are robust, child-centred, and aligned with legislative requirements.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge to social work practice, escalating concerns where statutory duties, timescales, or quality standards are not met.
  • Monitor the progress of care plans between reviews, ensuring actions are completed and children's outcomes remain the primary focus.
  • Build meaningful relationships with children and young people, ensuring their voices, wishes, and feelings are central to decision-making.
  • Lead on the processing of Subject Access Requests (SARs), ensuring compliance with GDPR and data protection legislation.
  • Coordinate information gathering for SARs across children's services, working with teams to produce accurate, timely, and appropriately redacted records.
  • Provide expert advice to staff on confidentiality, information-sharing, and data protection principles.
  • Maintain high-quality records and reporting, contributing to service performance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.

Requirements of this role:

  • Must be a Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England
  • Must have minimum of 3 years post qualifying social work experience
