Job overview NHS Choices College is a supported internship programme that aims to support young adults with learning difficulties, disabilities, or autism to become employment ready.
You will work closely with the Education Quality Assurance Manager in delivering the English and maths educational outcomes which are a condition of our funding. You will play a key role in ensuring the programme meets the educational needs of the learners and our regulatory bodies.
Please note - this vacancy will be based in the North East of England. A driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

Main duties of the job The Functional Skills Tutor's main duties will include delivery of bespoke maths and English curriculum to interns in a classroom setting. Preparing and assessing each interns progress by maintaining detailed weekly records as proscribed by the Education and Quality Assurance Manager.
You will be Educated to degree level or equivalent and hold a recognised post 16/ adult teaching qualification minimum Level 3 (AET/PTTLS/PGCE/) and have level 3 qualifications in English and maths or the equivalent.
You will be a confident communicator with learners who have a range of learning disabilities. You will have recent extensive experience of working with learners who have additional educational needs.
You will work on differentiated lessons with groups of students to support the development of social and emotional skills of the students.Whilst improving their English and maths from their starting point.
You will have strong communication skills and the ability to produce educational reports for each learner. Training in Systematic Instruction methodologies would be helpful.
A passion for supporting students with SEN to meet their full potential is essential for this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities The post holder is required to ensure that a high standard of teaching and learning is delivered in the classroom, making reasonable adjustments as necessary to meet learners 'current needs and academic level and maintain consistency of teaching and learning across their lessons.
A core scheme of work is delivered however, planning of teaching learning and assessment to ensure compliance with Awarding Organisation and consideration of individual learner needs is required. The post holder will follow the college policy and processes to ensure that documents, systems and processes to track progress of learners is followed and up to date. The postholder will plan, teach and evaluate learning as agreed with the Education Quality Assurance Manager to agreed Ofsted and Department for Education policy and standards, and to meet the highest levels of quality in the teaching and learning of learners.
This post holder manages their learning support assistant to ensure that their practice meets the requirements of the learners within the classroom. The post holder is part of the regional team which is managed by the Regional Mnager. However; the Education Quality Assurance manager will support and ensure that compliance with quality and teaching learning and assessment is in place.
All public facing roles require a proportionate level of English language proficiency for written and verbal communication and the Trust is required to verify results of certain English language competency tests relied upon. When the fluency duty is met by the provision of a sign language interpreter, the interpreter should be registered with the National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People (NRCPD).

- A commitment to continuing professional development with an interest and ability in developing new approaches to teaching

- Successful experience of teaching to adult learners of mixed ability and education level in group settings
- Experience of managing a scheme of work for maths and English at varying levels of competence to learners with learning disabilities or autism
- Knowledge of and experience in, the use and suitability of appropriate teaching and learning methods, to communicate the subject and encourage learners from a range of backgrounds and communities to progress in this subject area
- Knowledge and experience of contextualising subject specialism/s in vocational areas
- Experience of successfully planning, delivering, assessing, and evaluating teaching and learning to adult learners
- Experience of working with learners who have autism and the interventions that may be needed to maintain positive impact of the college on the learner.
- Working knowledge of MS office packages
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection legislation including information governance
- Experience of working with data systems or office systems e.g. diary management
- Experience of contributing information to formulate project reports
- Experience of documenting and reporting on risks and issues which includes identifying, monitoring and escalating the impact of risks and issues via the risk register for each project.
