INCLUSION TEACHER FOR CHILDREN LOOKED AFTER (CLA) VIRTUAL SCHOOL

Salary Range: MPR to UPR (£33,731 to £51,942) plus ALN (£2,838 to £5,595)

About the job

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Inclusion Teacher to join Cardiff's Children Looked After (CLA) Virtual School Team.

The achievement, wellbeing and success of Children Looked After sits at the heart of Cardiff's Inclusion Strategy and reflects the Council's commitment to its corporate parenting responsibilities. The Inclusion Teacher will champion the educational progress and aspirations of Children Looked After, ensuring that this vulnerable group remains a key priority across schools, services and partner agencies.

This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference to the educational outcomes, wellbeing and life chances of Children Looked After. You will work closely with schools, carers, families, social workers and multi-agency partners to ensure children receive high-quality, inclusive and ambitious educational provision.

The role includes:

• Supporting schools to develop inclusive, trauma-informed and evidence-based practice.
• Championing the educational achievement and wellbeing of Children Looked After.
• Leading and supporting the development, review and quality assurance of Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
• Undertaking statutory responsibilities under the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Code for Wales, including coordinating and reviewing Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
• Providing specialist advice, training, outreach support and challenge to schools and professionals.
• Supporting effective transitions and ensuring children receive timely and appropriate support.

Agile working is a key feature of this role. You will have a base at County Hall, Cardiff Bay with regular travel to schools and settings across Cardiff and occasionally outside of Cardiff.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for a qualified teacher who is committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people. You will have strong knowledge of the ALN Code for Wales and significant teaching experience in either a primary or secondary setting.

You will have experience of contributing to Person Centred planning and delivering training or professional learning.

You will have excellent communication, organisational and relationship building skills and will be able to lead people and work as part of a team

You will display a commitment to inclusion, high expectations and improving outcomes for Children Looked After.

Internal candidates who wish to apply for this temporary position on a secondment basis must obtain approval prior to application using Form SEC1 (4.C.081). Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.
