West Midlands Hybrid Working £80,000 Full Time (37 Hours) 12-Month FTC
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Solicitor to join the in-house legal team of a large, ambitious university in the West Midlands.
This is a varied and intellectually stimulating role, supporting a broad range of strategic commercial activity across the institution. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders, advising on high-value contracts, innovative partnerships and complex commercial arrangements that underpin teaching, research and enterprise.
A particular focus of the role is advising on partnership and franchise arrangements with organisations including NHS bodies, further education colleges and private sector providers. You'll help ensure these collaborations are commercially robust, legally compliant and appropriately protect the University's interests.
The position is offered initially on a 12 month fixed term contract with a strong chance of being made permanent for the right individual.
The RoleThis is a genuine business partnering role, offering the opportunity to influence key strategic decisions while working alongside senior leaders across the organisation. You'll advise on a broad range of commercial matters, including:
- Partnership and franchise agreements
- Commercial contracts and procurement
- Grant funding agreements
- IT and technology contracts
- Data sharing agreements
- Research collaborations and intellectual property
- Joint ventures and other strategic commercial projects
You'll be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales with significant post-qualification experience in commercial law. Experience advising universities on partnership or franchise arrangements would be particularly attractive, although candidates from other sectors with comparable commercial expertise are encouraged to apply. You'll ideally have experience of:
- Drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
- Advising on contractual risk and governance
- Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders
- Working within higher education or another public sector environment
- Salary of £80,000
