Base Location: Successful applicants must be based in either Aberdeen or Inverness, Scotland.

Salary: £58,630 - £68,098 plus car allowance, overtime eligibility, and a range of benefits supporting your finances, wellbeing, and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent, Full Time, with flexible options available.

The role

SSEN Transmission seeks a proactive HVDC Operations Engineer specializing in Control Systems to join our Asset Management & Operations team on a permanent basis. This key role involves overseeing the Operations, Maintenance, and Commissioning of HVDC Converter Stations in service and during project execution. The successful candidate will also support HVDC and FACTS Service Level Agreements within the team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking energy team while advancing your skills.

You will

  • Lead operations related to HVDC / FACTS Control Systems, including reviewing and approving software changes, testing on replica systems, and witnessing software deployment at sites, ensuring revision control practices are followed.
  • Provide first-line support for Converter faults and alarms, coordinate troubleshooting activities, and liaise with Technical Services for protection schemes support.
  • Manage upgrade and refurbishment projects for HVDC / FACTS Control Systems, ensuring delivery aligns with policies, standards, schedule, and budget.
  • Engage regularly with live HVDC projects, participate in design reviews, and support Factory and Site Acceptance Tests for new systems.
  • Collaborate with Technical Services and Operational Technology teams to ensure maintenance practices are consistent across control systems.

You have

  • Experience in design, Factory System Testing, or Site Acceptance Testing of HVDC / FACTS Control Systems (experience with MACH2, MACH3, or SIMATIC is advantageous).
  • Knowledge of the operational and maintenance lifecycle of HVDC / FACTS assets.
  • Strong prioritization, planning, and organizational skills to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with team members, engineers, managers, OEMs.
  • A valid driver's license due to project locations.
