Job Description
Our client, an independent oil and gas operator, is currently hiring a HSE Specialist to join the team in Aberdeen.
Purpose of Position:
Organise the assigned BEMS sub-processes to ensure:
- A consistent approach of this process towards the internal organisation as well as to our external stakeholders.
- A continuous improvement in the HSE performance of our business.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Ensure company HSEQ policies, procedures, and practices are followed.
- Ensure legislative requirements are up to date within applicable procedures and documentation, including emergency response training, in consultation with stakeholders to assure emergency preparedness.
- Manage safe work procedures in consultation with stakeholders, complying with standards and legislation to minimise incidents and accidents, and promote learning and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, including reporting incidents under RIDDOR, and align with other UK regulatory frameworks such as COMAH, PUWER, and LOLER. Maintain engagement with industry bodies like OEUK to stay informed of developments.
- Provide technical safety and process safety advice and support to PNS departments.
- Organise alignment with ISO 45001 standards to ensure H&S compliance and continuous environmental performance improvement. Conduct internal and contractor audits as needed.
- Coordinate with sister and corporate organizations to align management system requirements.
Principal Challenges:
- Receiving timely input from stakeholders to ensure permits are in place without disrupting project schedules.
- Collaborating effectively with others who are not directly accountable but are key to fulfilling tasks.
- Achieving awareness and alignment across departments and multidisciplinary teams regarding HSE issues.
Job Knowledge:
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent Level 6); Chartered IOSH membership preferred.
- Experience with ISO 45001:2018 requirements.
- 5-10 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in oil and gas or chemical industries.
- Skilled knowledge of UK HSE legislation and international standards.

- Ability to maintain a helicopter view and consider stakeholder requirements.
- Engage, influence, and work independently.
- Excellent communication, reporting, problem-solving, and coaching skills.
Human Relation Skills:
- Fluent in English (verbal and written).
Key Performance Indicators:
- Compliance with audit schedules and corrective actions.
- Timely regulatory updates communication.
- Reduction in incident rates and successful safety initiatives.
- Stakeholder satisfaction with HSE support.
Travel to offshore and onshore locations may be required for inspections, audits, and training sessions.
