Working within a collaborative team, you will oversee complex casework, provide technical guidance and coaching to colleagues, and ensure decisions are made consistently, fairly and in line with government policy and governance requirements. While this role does not include formal line management responsibilities, you will provide day-to-day task management, mentoring and support to caseworkers, helping to maintain high standards of performance and wellbeing across the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of a busy casework team, providing task management, coaching and support to colleagues.
  • Make robust, evidence-based decisions independently, ensuring compliance with relevant government policies, legislation and operational guidance.
  • Analyse complex information and assess supporting evidence to determine appropriate outcomes, requesting additional information where required.
  • Handle sensitive and personal information with the highest levels of confidentiality and in accordance with data protection legislation.
  • Respond to enquiries professionally, sensitively and respectfully, identifying when interpretation or translation services may be required.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing advice and guidance to support operational priorities.
  • Monitor casework performance and contribute to the production of management information, statistics and reporting to support operational planning and resource forecasting.
  • Ensure governance processes, quality standards and operational procedures are consistently applied across all casework activities.
  • Support the training, development and mentoring of caseworkers, promoting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Deputise for senior management when required and contribute to the ongoing improvement of operational processes.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience working within Government, or alongside Government, in a high-volume operational delivery environment.
  • Strong evidence-based decision-making skills within a rules-based casework environment.
  • Experience working within a policy-led environment and interpreting government policy to make sound operational decisions.
  • Experience providing leadership, mentoring or task management to colleagues, with a strong focus on wellbeing and development (no formal line management required).
  • Proven ability to build credibility and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience handling complex and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Competent user of Microsoft 365 applications, including intermediate Microsoft Excel.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within government operational casework functions.
  • Knowledge of governance processes and operational reporting.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement and operational performance.

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Demonstrates sound judgement and integrity.
  • Is highly organised and resilient under pressure.
  • Communicates confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Has excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Enjoys coaching and supporting others to achieve high performance.
  • Is committed to delivering high-quality public service outcomes in a fast-paced operational environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a significant government programme where your expertise in operational casework, policy application and team leadership will make a meaningful contribution to the delivery of critical public services.
