Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Housing Officer to join a housing team in Plymouth on an initial 8-week temporary contract, providing essential cover across a patch of bungalows for older residents. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident housing professional with strong tenancy management experience to make an immediate impact, delivering a responsive, customer-focused housing service while helping to maintain safe, well-managed neighbourhoods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a designated patch of properties, overseeing day-to-day tenancy management activities.
  • Respond to tenancy-related enquiries, concerns and complaints, ensuring timely and effective resolutions.
  • Identify, investigate and address tenancy breaches, anti-social behaviour and other estate management issues.
  • Undertake estate inspections and property visits, identifying concerns and coordinating appropriate follow-up action.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies and relevant partners to resolve housing management matters.
  • Engage positively with residents, ensuring their views and concerns are heard and taken into account.
  • Maintain accurate records, case notes and housing management documentation.
  • Monitor tenancy issues and take appropriate action in line with organisational policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Support the delivery of a safe, well-maintained and customer-focused neighbourhood for older residents.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Previous experience working as a Housing Officer or in a similar tenancy management role.
  • A strong understanding of tenancy management procedures and relevant housing legislation.
  • Experience managing tenancy issues, complaints, anti-social behaviour and resident concerns.
  • The ability to manage a caseload effectively, prioritise competing demands and work independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and customer-focused approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate, timely records.
  • Confidence undertaking estate visits, engaging with residents and working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
  • A proactive, practical approach to resolving problems and achieving positive outcomes.
What's on Offer?
  • £31 per hour Umbrella - a competitive hourly rate.
  • Paid mileage for eligible work-related travel.
  • Hybrid working - just 1 day per week in the office, with the remainder of the week offering flexibility for home working and estate visits, subject to service requirements.
  • Flexible working arrangements to support a balance between office-based duties, home working and resident-facing responsibilities.
  • Initial 8-week contract, with the potential for extension depending on service requirements.
  • Full-time hours within an established housing team.
  • An opportunity to make an immediate contribution to a local housing service and support older residents in their homes.
  • A varied, hands-on role where your housing management experience can make a genuine difference to residents and the wider community.
