Job Summary

Housing coordinators are needed to assist with reassessments of applicants in exempt accommodation. The role involves evaluating the priority need for housing assistance and processing homelessness applications when necessary.

Key Duties/Accountabilities
  • Provide quality housing options, advice, and homeless prevention casework to fulfill the authority's statutory function to prevent homelessness in accordance with the Housing Act 1996 (as amended in 2002, 2011, 2016).
  • Ensure robust processing of homeless applications and provide accurate, quality advice to prevent all aspects of homelessness in accordance with current legislation, considering the code of guidance.
  • Utilize all available homelessness prevention tools to sustain tenancies or secure suitable, affordable accommodation for those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
  • Offer comprehensive statutory advice and assistance to all non-priority homeless cases, including rough sleepers, in accordance with s.192 Housing Act 1996.
  • Promote the Council's website as a knowledge base and the online customer portal.
Essential Experience Required
  • Experience in an enabling and empowering way with homeless customers or those seeking advice regarding their rehousing options is essential.
  • Experience working with housing and homelessness legislation and delivering housing access and homelessness services is essential.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role, preferably in housing or other homelessness services to vulnerable people and minority groups, is essential.
  • Experience conducting robust enquiries and competently deciding homelessness applications in accordance with Part VII Housing Act 1996 as amended is essential.
  • A good general standard of education is essential.
Additional Information to Note
  • Working hours: 35 hours per week.
  • Hybrid working: 1-2 days office-based.
