Job Description

Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking to appoint a highly organised and professional Hospitality Supervisor to support the effective delivery of our internal hospitality and external conference catering services. This permanent, 42 week role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the provision of high quality food and beverage services across the University.

About the Role

The post holder will play a central role in coordinating, supervising, and ensuring the consistent delivery of hospitality services across campus. Working under the direction of the Hospitality & Events Operations Assistant Manager, the successful candidate will ensure that service standards, operational procedures, and customer expectations are met at all times.

This position requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to upholding the University's professional, safety and service standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and oversee the delivery of hospitality services for conferences, internal events, and VIP functions, ensuring all requirements are met to a high standard.
  • Support the planning and coordination of staffing and resources for events, working collaboratively with the Executive Chef team and outlet managers.
  • Manage bookings and updates through the University's online hospitality ordering system.
  • Contribute to the development and review of hospitality menus, service standards, and associated training for team members.
  • Maintain compliance with food hygiene, health and safety regulations, and all relevant operational procedures.
  • Assist with stock ordering, monitoring deliveries, managing wastage, and participating in stocktaking.
  • Provide supervision, induction, and ongoing development for catering assistants, supporting performance management processes where required.
  • Lead team briefings to ensure consistent communication and operational alignment.
  • Support rota planning and administrative tasks that contribute to efficient service delivery.
  • Ensure a professional appearance and promote high levels of customer care at all times.
Essential Criteria
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and motivating catering or hospitality teams.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of clients.
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety standards (Level 3 Food Safety or willingness to obtain within 3 months of appointment).
  • Experience of working in a busy, customer focused catering environment.
  • Experience with EPOS systems, stock control, and hospitality ordering systems.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • A full, clean driving licence.
