Location: Taunton

Salary: £54,609 - £57,159 depending on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week, Monday-Saturday, 9am-5pm

Weekend rota: Saturday approximately 1 week in 4, with a rota day off for weekend working

On-call: Included as part of the rota

This is an exciting opportunity for a Qualified Optometrist to join a leading provider of NHS cataract surgery as a Hospital Optometrist in Taunton.

The role is focused on patient care rather than sales targets or KPIs, making it an ideal opportunity for an Optometrist looking to develop their clinical skills and move into hospital-based optometry.

No previous hospital experience is required, with full training provided and support from experienced senior optometrists throughout your development.

You'll be part of a large team of hospital optometrists supporting patients across a range of services, including pre-operative and post-operative cataract care and YAG laser treatments. There are also opportunities to develop your skills in areas such as Medical Retina, Glaucoma and private services.

About the Role

As a Hospital Optometrist, your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out pre- and post-operative assessments for cataract surgery patients.
• Conducting pre-operative assessments for YAG laser capsulotomy referrals.
• Obtaining informed consent in a professional and ethical manner.
• Participating in the on-call and weekend rota.
• Ensuring clinical areas and equipment are prepared and checked before and after clinics.
• Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Completing required training, including Basic Life Support and manual handling.

What We're Looking For

• A qualified Optometrist with current GOC registration.
• A genuine passion for developing your clinical knowledge and skills.
• An interest in ocular disease and advanced clinical practice.
• Higher qualifications are welcomed.
• Previous hospital optometry experience is advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided.
