Job Description

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Part Time

Location: South East London

Salary: £120-£150 per day (dependent on experience)

Contract Type: Part-Time, Term-Time Only

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our friendly and supportive primary school in South East London. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teaching assistant to take on a more advanced role, supporting teaching and learning across the school.

As an HLTA, you will work closely with class teachers to deliver high-quality learning experiences, lead small group interventions, and occasionally cover whole classes in the absence of a teacher.

This position is starting on a part time basis with the view to extend into a full time role over time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • PPA and Staff Absence Cover
  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging lessons across the primary age range
  • Lead small group work and targeted interventions to support pupil progress
  • Provide whole-class cover when required
  • Assist in assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil development
  • Support pupils with varying needs, including SEND
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Proven experience working in a primary school setting
  • Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
