HLTA - SEMH Specialist
About the RoleA supportive and inclusive primary school in the L13 area is seeking a skilled HLTA (or an ECT looking for school-based experience before taking on a class teacher role) to join their team. This role involves both HLTA-level classroom responsibilities and specialised support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across KS1 and KS2.
This is a fantastic opportunity for professionals with strong behaviour management skills and a passion for helping pupils with complex emotional needs succeed.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver whole-class lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
- Lead targeted interventions focused on behaviour, emotional regulation and social skills.
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for children with SEMH needs (primarily boys).
- Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Support the planning and delivery of engaging, differentiated activities.
- Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral team.
- Contribute to a nurturing, safe and structured learning environment.
- Qualified HLTA or an ECT seeking school-based experience.
- Confident in leading lessons and managing a classroom.
- Experience supporting children with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
- Calm, resilient and able to respond to dysregulation with empathy and consistency.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and mental health needs.
- Team Teach training is preferred (or willingness to undertake it).
