Job Description
Histopathology Laboratory Quality and Process Improvement Lead (12-18 Month Freelance Contract) Overview

Join a fast-moving digital pathology environment as our Lab Quality and Process Improvement Lead. You'll help maintain compliance while driving practical, data-led quality improvements that reduce errors, strengthen workflow reliability, and support accredited histopathology laboratory operations. This role combines hands on quality management with a strong change-driving mindset-partnering with scientists and operations teams to implement improvements that stick.

Required Skills
  • Degree in Biomedical Science or a similar life science discipline
  • Previous experience working in ISO 15189 accredited histopathology laboratories
  • Strong knowledge of histochemistry workflows and quality/compliance requirements
  • Experience setting quality metrics, analysing quality data, and leading root cause investigationsFamiliarity with digital pathology, LIMS systems, and quality management systems
  • Proven stakeholder communication, leadership, mentoring, and ability to drive change (not just advise)
  • Strong problem solving and ability to work under pressure against tight deadlines
Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., 6 Sigma, DMAIC, Kaizen)
  • Experience with Generative AI tools/technology and/or AI assisted pathology tools
  • Knowledge of AI cloud computing and electronic data archiving
Preferred Education and Experience

Biomedical Science (or equivalent) plus substantial, hands on histopathology QA experience within ISO 15189 environments.

Other Requirements
  • Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship)
  • Full time on site in Oxford
