We are currently seeking a talented Shader Artist to join our dedicated Technical Art team. This opportunity is available on a full in-studio basis or via a flexible hybrid model (requiring a minimum of three days per week in the studio). To ensure a smooth transition, Frontier provides a comprehensive relocation support package for candidates who need to relocate to the UK.

What's the Role?As a Shader Artist at Frontier, you will play a pivotal role within our Technical Art department. You will collaborate directly with artists and render programmers to design and develop requested material features, optimize shaders for maximum usability and runtime cost efficiency, manage extensive project shader libraries, and actively investigate and resolve shader-related challenges.
Key Responsibilities & What You'll Be Doing:- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to develop pragmatic, visually stunning effects across specialized game environments.
- Contribute to, expand, and maintain comprehensive game shader libraries.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve shader performance bottlenecks to guarantee optimal frame rates.
- Optimize texture packing methodologies and select ideal texture formats based on specific content usage.
- Empower content teams by supplying practical effect workflows, auditing resources, and ensuring smooth asset integration.
- Formulate clear shader feature specifications that thoroughly address key stakeholder requirements.
To excel in this technical and creative role, candidates must demonstrate a solid foundation across graphics programming and art pipelines:
- Proven experience authoring vertex and pixel shaders using HLSL/GLSL.
- Demonstrated history of implementing visually impressive graphical features in shipped titles.
- Strong mathematical foundation, encompassing linear algebra and trigonometry.
- Demonstrated practical experience with scripting languages such as Python and/or Lua.
- Thorough understanding of modern digital content creation (DCC) workflows and pipelines.
- Deep appreciation of lighting fundamentals, cameras, composition, and material physics.
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively.
- Practical knowledge of GPU profiling, memory optimization techniques, and performance considerations.
- Experience authoring compute shaders.
- Comfortable writing and debugging code in C++.
- Advanced knowledge of rendering pipelines, effective shader techniques, physically based shading (PBR), visual effects, and post-processing stacks.
