Role Overview

As a Highway Asset Specialist, you will inspect, assess, and manage the Council's highway assets. You will investigate enquiries, supervise contractor works, and ensure the highway network is safe, well-maintained, and compliant with legislation.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect and assess highway defects, prioritising maintenance needs
• Investigate public enquiries, insurance claims, encroachments, and adoption queries
• Issue notices and enforce highway regulations
• Liaise with contractors, order and supervise works
• Assist with planned highway maintenance projects

Essential Skills & Experience

• Knowledge of highway construction and defect identification
• Understanding of highway asset management
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desirable

• Local authority highways experience
• Knowledge of Highways Act 1980
• Proficient in Microsoft Office

Beneficial

• City & Guilds Highway Inspection qualification
• Knowledge of NRSWA/streetworks
• CSCS card

Requirements

• Own vehicle for site visits (mileage reimbursed)
• Flexible approach, mostly site-based work
