Highly Specialist Pharmacist Opthalmology

This role is a key member of the Clinical and Medicines Optimisation Team within the Pharmacy Division at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). MFT is the third largest provider of specialist services, and you will work with the eye hospital, medicines optimisation team, medicines safety team , clinical pharmacy team and other key stakeholders to ensure the safe and cost effective use of medicines within Opthalmology.

The role will support a ward based clinical pharmacy service to the eye hospital, implementation of biosimilar high-cost medicines to treat Wet Age Related Macular Oedema and support use of specialist gene therapies within Opthalmology.

We seek a passionate, dedicated pharmacist with excellent clinical knowledge including an understanding of medicines use within opthalmology . Excellent presentation, organisational, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required.

Main duties of the job
  • To be responsible for the provision of a high quality comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to the eye hospital promoting the best clinical and cost effective use of medicines.
  • To be the highly specialist clinical pharmacist within the eye hospital, advising and educating pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals on all aspects of medicines management.
  • To be responsible for the safe day to day operations within opthalmology.
  • To be involved in the strategic planning and service development of pharmacy services to the eye hospital.

Person Specification Registration
  • Registered Pharmacist with GPhC
  • Member of Faculty/PRS. Member of National/International Specialist Organisation
Qualifications
  • Vocational 4-year master's degree in pharmacy or equivalent
  • 1-year pre-registration training and successful completion or examination.
  • Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent documented clinical experience
  • Successful completion of pre registration examination
  • Independent non medical prescribing qualification
  • Attendance at relevant conferences and training courses.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Extensive experience in hospital pharmacy in a clinical role
  • Experience of specialist hospital pharmacy services or experience in the area of responsibility
  • Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skills
  • Sound clinical knowledge and understanding
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience in delivering training and education
  • Research experience Awareness of current Government, Trust and local policies
  • Previous experience in delivering training and education
  • Experience of covering intensive care or high dependency patients
