Higher Scientific Officer - Fisheries & Aquatic Ecosystems

Location: Belfast with fieldwork across Northern Ireland

Contract: Full-time, up to 51 weeks.

About the Role

Cpl NI is seeking a Higher Scientific Officer to support the AMBIO Shared Island Project, contributing to research on the sustainable management of fisheries and aquatic ecosystems. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-impact environmental science within a dynamic research team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and conduct scientific sampling of biological specimens.
  • Undertake laboratory analyses and ensure data accuracy and quality.
  • Manage and support staff during fieldwork and laboratory activities.
  • Analyse, interpret, and report scientific data.
  • Present findings at knowledge transfer and stakeholder events.
  • Produce technical reports outlining research findings and recommendations.
Essential Criteria

Either:

  • A PhD in Aquatic Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.

Or:

  • A Degree (or equivalent/higher) in Aquatic Science, Environmental Science, or related field, plus at least 2 years' post-qualification research experience and evidence of being a named author on a scientific paper.

And:

  • Demonstrable postgraduate experience in scientific data management, including competence in spreadsheets, database systems, and GIS.
  • Strong understanding of data quality control and adherence to sampling protocols.
  • A full driving licence suitable for fieldwork travel.
