Job Description

About:

Global Marine Group is a leading independent provider of submarine cable solutions, offering a broad range of services including consultancy, installation, and maintenance covering the lifespan of a submarine cable system, delivered to customers worldwide.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Security Networks with a proven background in the marine industry working for the CISO. This is a hands-on technical role involving extensive worldwide travel, with significant time spent overseas. When not overseas, attendance at Chelmsford Head Office is required 4-5 days a week. Due to the nature of the role and business, this position requires 24/7/365 availability. The IT department follows a role-based structure, meaning this role does not include any direct reports.

Purpose:

You will be responsible for the technical availability of all networks and servers, both cloud-based and locally hosted. You are expected to investigate, resolve issues, and build all related devices. Monitoring and maintaining the Microsoft-based systems and supporting the CISO to provide a 24/7/365 IT service are key responsibilities. You should be comfortable contributing to the strategic direction of the business to achieve its ambitious goals, requiring proven experience in a global environment with in-depth technical, hands-on knowledge.

Key Deliverables:

  • Maintain and support onshore and offshore IT systems 24/7/365 for cloud and client-server environments.
  • Networking and security experience, including firewall optimization, Cisco, and Watchguard protocols.
  • Maintain and implement high-quality operational standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Diagnose and solve technical problems under time constraints and business pressure.
  • Adhere to strict budget requirements and identify cost-saving opportunities across the Group.
  • Assist in developing business cases for new initiatives and support large projects.
  • Break down organizational silos by removing barriers, automating processes, and workflows.
  • Advise on best IT practices and deliverables using frameworks like ITIL.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10+ years of IT experience in complex infrastructure environments, with marine and offshore experience.
  • Certified Microsoft qualifications.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft technologies, networking protocols for ERP systems, security, network design, and configuration.
  • Experience with Identity Management including Active Directory, Azure AD, 2FA.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, including all server versions and desktops.
  • Extensive worldwide travel experience, including vessels.
  • Experience configuring ERP systems and client-server upgrades from solution selection to implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to manage escalations and resolve critical technical issues promptly.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and innovative thinking.
