Job Description

The Head of Product will lead the delivery and management of RSL Group Holdings' portfolio of educational products, digital services, and publishing assets. This role combines commercial acumen with a deep understanding of music education and content innovation. You will be responsible for driving the organisation's product vision-from concept to market-ensuring that all offerings meet the needs of learners, teachers, and partners globally while achieving financial sustainability and growth.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide input to the overall product and publishing strategy in line with RSL's commercial goals
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute the product and publishing strategy and ensure new products are prepared for marketing
  • Manage the product portfolio, both physical and digital, balancing existing publications with digital transformation and new learning experiences.
  • Manage the product team to deliver high quality print and digital publications
  • Drive rights management, licensing, and content partnerships to maximise reach and revenue.
  • Champion editorial excellence, design quality, and accessibility across all published materials
  • Monitor market trends, competitor products, and emerging technologies to inform product innovation and provide a weekly report to senior leadership to summarise findings
Product Development & Management
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle management of products-concept, design, development, testing, launch, and evaluation, ensuring that all projects are managed to time and budget.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all parties understand their role, responsibilities and timelines.
  • Take overall responsibility for maintaining existing products and for supporting colleagues with cost service queries.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on product development progress and challenges
  • Collaborate with educators, composers, authors, and digital teams to create engaging, pedagogically sound content.
  • Ensure products align with curriculum standards and user needs across global markets.
  • Maintain oversight of stock control and ensure orders for new stock are placed in a timely manner to maintain stock availability.
Commercial & Operational Management
  • Set and manage budgets, forecasts, and KPIs for product and publishing performance.
  • Track and analyse sales and provide regular updates to the Director of Product and Marketing
  • Evaluate ROI and use data driven insights to refine strategy and improve product outcomes.
  • Provide input to national and international business development activities as required to showcase products.
  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Oversee a team of external freelancers and effectively manage a remote team to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Inspire, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of product managers, editors, and creative specialists.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in senior product management or publishing leadership, ideally within music, education, or creative industries.
  • Strong understanding of music education and learner needs across different levels and geographies.
  • Experience of managing complex product portfolios (print, digital, and hybrid).
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing P&L, forecasting, and market analysis.
  • Experience in digital learning platforms, music technology, or educational assessment.
  • Musical background (performing, teaching, or composing).
  • Familiarity with intellectual property, licensing, and publishing contracts.

  • To undertake training as necessary in line with development of the post.
  • To participate fully in the performance management process and undertake Continuing Professional Development as required.
  • To achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
