Head of Legal
Location: Brighton (2 days per week in office, 3 days working from home)
Department: Finance
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Direct reports: Legal Counsel

MPB is seeking a Head of Legal to lead its global legal function from our Brighton headquarters. This strategic role involves providing both day-to-day and overarching legal support to facilitate sustainable growth. The successful candidate will balance commercial pragmatism with legal compliance, guiding the business through risks, regulations, and opportunities.

Reporting to the CFO, you will lead a developing legal team, including a newly qualified legal counsel, and shape legal frameworks that support our expanding international operations across the UK, US, and EU. Key areas include data protection, consumer law, employment law, commercial contracts, corporate governance, and M&A activities.

What You Will Be Doing:
  1. Advising the Executive Team and Board on strategic legal issues
  2. Leading the legal function, including managing and mentoring Legal Counsel
  3. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts
  4. Ensuring legal compliance across all jurisdictions, with a focus on data protection, consumer law, and employment law
  5. Managing external counsel relationships and budgets
  6. Developing scalable workflows to manage legal tasks efficiently
  7. Promoting a culture of compliance and risk awareness through training and internal communication
Who We Are Looking For:
  1. A pragmatic and commercially minded solicitor with a solutions-oriented approach
  2. Thrives in fast-paced environments and can translate complex legal issues into accessible advice
  3. Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales with a valid practising certificate
  4. Significant post-qualification experience in corporate and commercial law, including both private practice and in-house roles
  5. Experience supporting international operations
  6. Strong knowledge of UK, EU, and US legal frameworks, especially in eCommerce and consumer regulation
  7. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  8. Experience managing legal teams
  9. Ability to manage risk with commercial sensitivity
