Reports to: People Director

Terms: Permanent, Full time, 50% Hybrid

Location: Head Office, Dublin 2

Salary: GB 8: €80,184 - €89,094

Requirements: Willingness and ability to undertake short term deployments and visits to any of our country programmes, approximately 2 or 3 times a year.

Role Purpose

Working as part of the HR Directorate, the Head of Health and Wellbeing is responsible for leading the design, development and delivery of HR workplace policy and strategy in health and wellbeing for all staff. Sensitive to the cultural diversity of Concern's contexts, the job holder will work with stakeholders across the organisation to drive Concern's ambition to progress workplace health and wellbeing.

Through the provision of workplace support and advice, the role promotes a positive health and wellbeing culture across the organisation. The role is expected to ensure consistent standards while supporting a working environment that aligns with the organisation's values.

This role works across all of Concern's Programme Countries, subsidiary offices and the Head Office in Dublin and has a remit for over 3,000 staff in 24 countries, along with Head and Support Office staff.

Responsibilities
  • As part of the People Management Team, contribute to the development of the organisation's People Strategy and management of the People function.
  • Lead the team in the development and rollout of critical operational procedures including pre and post deployment medical checks and briefings, SOPs for managing illness, identification and assessment of service providers, and procedures to be followed during medical evacuation.
  • Lead the team in the implementation of the current Mental Health and Psychosocial Support policy and strategy and in the development and rollout of the next phase strategy.
  • Lead the team in monitoring and tracking health, illness and wellbeing trends to inform initiatives and mitigate future hazards.
  • Work with Managers (including the Senior Management Team and Country Directors) and key staff to identify, support and manage health and wellbeing risks to staff; develop mitigation measures in support of Concern's work in both development and emergency contexts.
  • Manage the identification of and routine liaison with insurance providers, ensuring that effective medivac and insurance claims procedures are in place.
  • Manage time critical medical evacuations as required.
  • Through establishing and maintaining internal and external networks, stay abreast of best practice and trends in the humanitarian sector, with a specific focus on health and wellbeing.
  • Identify and track key performance indicators to measure the return on investment in health and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Demonstrate leadership on workplace equality, diversity and inclusion and role model a positive safeguarding ethos.
  • Accept, advance and pursue any new objectives or responsibilities assigned by the People Director.
  • All managers are responsible for upholding and promoting Concern's values, demonstrating leadership on workplace equality, diversity and inclusion, and role modelling a positive safeguarding ethos.
  • All managers are required to actively participate in any emergency response as and when required.
Role Holder Requirements
  • Primary adult general nursing qualification, with current registration and a postgraduate qualification.
  • Experience leading a team in health care delivery and health promotion, preferably in the humanitarian sector.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage high level relationships at the organisational level.
  • Strong communication skills and proven capacity to build relationships.
  • Proven capacity to deliver results.
  • Postgraduate qualification in tropical medicine, occupational health and safety, public health, or demonstrable years of equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience managing and coordinating mental health and psychosocial support, staff welfare or wellbeing is advantageous.
  • French language fluency is desirable.
