Job Description
Senior Head of Sustainability, and Health & Safety

Location: Crawley Court (Winchester), Emley Moor (Huddersfield), Newman Street Chalfont -London

We operate a flexible, hybrid working environment - requirement to travel to either our Winchester or London office up to twice a week.

Purpose

Accountable for the direction and execution of the Health and Safety (HS) function, ensuring the development and execution of an Arqiva-wide HS strategy. Responsible for setting frameworks and objectives to safeguard employees and assets, while ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.

Accountabilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of Arqiva's HS strategy to align with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Accountable for the creation and implementation of HS policies, procedures, and standards across the organisation.
  • Manage HS audits and risk assessments to identify, mitigate, and report on operational risks.
  • Ensure the organisation complies with current and emerging HS legislation, making recommendations to senior management on necessary actions.
  • Provide strategic advice and leadership to cross-functional teams on complex HS matters.
  • Lead incident and accident investigations, ensuring lessons learned are integrated into policies and practices.
  • Manage the preparation of reports and presentations on HS performance for executive leadership and external regulatory bodies.
  • Build and lead a team of HS professionals, promoting professional development and a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor industry trends and advancements in HS practices and technology, recommending new approaches to improve Arqiva's safety performance.
  • Input to departmental OPEX/CAPEX budgets and own delivery elements of operating plan
  • Manage self & task: role model Arqiva's culture goals with the team, building respect and credibility; set a high-performance bar and challenge the team to deliver sustainable results, by developing the skills and capabilities of the team and focusing on outcomes.
  • Manage relationships & communications: connect, collaborate & lead communication transparently, balancing face to face and virtual, with own team and teams across the business to encourage cross-functional understanding, agreement and knowledge sharing.

  • Health & Safety - Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices
  • Risk Assessment - Ability to conduct risk assessments and hazard identification.
  • Risk Management & QA - Ability to identify and mitigate potential risks, and implement quality control processes
  • Root cause analysis - Identify root causes and recommend solutions
  • Data Analysis - Ability to manipulate and analyse data, and make informed decisions
  • Communication skills - collaborate with cross-functional teams, present technical info and provide training or support
  • Analytical and technical problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Innovation & CI - ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement
  • Budget management - ability to effectively manage project and team budgets.
  • Relationship management - ability to foster relationships (and network) with external vendors, suppliers, industry peers, etc.
  • Leadership and Management - management proficiency in influencing, analysis, decision making, empathy, communications, and adaptability
Knowledge & Experience
  • Extensive experience in EHS management or a related field, with a significant portion at a leadership level.
  • Extensive knowledge of EHS regulations and standards e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 45001
  • Experience in developing and implementing company-wide EHS strategies and policies.
  • Ability to lead complex projects and mentor senior team members.
Qualifications

A degree (or equivalent experience) in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field is required. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification is a plus. Chartered Member of IOSH, Practitioner IEMA
