Head of Fundraising, Income and Alumni Union of Jewish StudentsJoin Union of Jewish Students as the new Head of Fundraising, Income and Alumni to help lead, defend and enrich Jewish life on campuses across the UK and Ireland.
- Location: Hybrid / London, Golders Green
- Closing date: Rolling applications
We are the Union of Jewish Students , the voice of 10,000 Jewish students, spanning over 80 Jewish Societies (JSocs) on campuses across the UK and Ireland. We are traditional, progressive, cultural and spiritual; we come from the left, centre and right and can be found across religious and political spectrums.
Guided by our core values, the priorities of our elected President and policy passed at UJS Conference, together we create and deliver powerful campaigns; fighting prejudice, advancing inclusion, and inspiring education and action on the issues that matter to us.
Locally, nationally and internationally, we run diverse and dynamic programmes; provide access to kosher food and accommodation; and passionately engage with Israel, interfaith, and social action projects.
For over 100 years, we've been leading, defending and enriching Jewish student life across the UK and Ireland, and we're proud to be the voice of Jewish students.
About the roleThe Head of Fundraising is responsible for shaping and delivering UJS's income generation strategy at a pivotal moment in the organisation's development. This is a hands-on role: while you'll help set direction, most of your time goes on execution, building pipeline, writing applications and converting opportunities into income.
Strategy and prioritisation. You'll work with the CEO, President, Chair and senior team to decide where UJS should focus its fundraising effort and why. That means turning a broad set of possible income streams into an approach that's ambitious but realistic, balancing what UJS needs to raise this year against what it needs to build for the next five.
Pipeline and delivery. This is where most of your time goes. You'll research and pursue new trusts, foundations, major donors and corporate partners, support with applications and proposals, and manage relationships through to a decision. Early on, the focus is building pipeline and strengthening the basics. Over time, success looks like consistent income against target and a healthier pipeline behind it.
Alongside delivery, you'll build and manage the systems that let UJS manage donors properly as the function grows: a stewardship and recognition framework for major donors, trusts and corporates, due diligence processes, a single point of contact model for high-value prospects, and prospect research grounded in good data protection practice. There is a need to quickly establish consistent CRM adoption, process management and reporting mechanisms to enable better stewardship of donors.
You'll cultivate UJS's relationships with its alumni, identifying who's best placed to support and champion the organisation and building that into a genuine, ongoing income stream. Alumni development goes beyond fundraising to seeking genuine support for current cohorts as well as providing ongoing and genuine opportunity for alumni.
Case for support and senior leadership. You'll shape how UJS talks about its impact, so that when the President, Chair or CEO are in front of a donor, they have a case for support that's compelling and consistent. Part of the job is making sure they're in the right rooms in the first place, equipped with the message that gets a yes.
UJS operates in a fast moving, student-led environment where priorities evolve each year. This role is central to providing stability and continuity, ensuring that strong fundraising foundations are in place while remaining responsive to new opportunities and directions set by elected leadership.
This role will involve managing a high volume of activity, with multiple applications, relationships and opportunities progressing at any one time. UJS is a lean organisation, and this role does not currently have any line management responsibilities, though with success, there is appetite to recruit administrative support. Success will come from being proactive, organised and comfortable managing both strategic priorities and detailed execution. It will be measured through growth in pipeline, conversion of opportunities into income, and the development of sustainable fundraising systems and relationships.
If you're someone who enjoys working closely with senior stakeholders, enjoys rolling up their sleeves, taking ownership of delivery, and is motivated by turning opportunities into secured income, this could be the role for you.
Who we are looking forWe seek an ambitious and process driven Head of Fundraising who combines strategic thinking with a hands on approach to delivery and process management. You will bring a strong track record of securing income from trusts, foundations and major donors, alongside experience of delivering successful fundraising appeals and events. An exceptional communicator, you will be confident crafting compelling funding proposals and building lasting relationships with supporters at every level. You will capitalise on a supportive board and be the conduit to high value relationships to be leveraged by the Chair, CEO and the UJS President.
Motivated by UJS's mission, you will understand the opportunities and challenges facing Jewish students and be excited by the chance to help shape the organisation's long term financial sustainability. Highly organised and self directed, you will be comfortable managing a busy fundraising pipeline, balancing multiple priorities and taking ownership of ambitious income targets. You will also have experience of fundraising systems, prospect research and sector best practice, with confidence using CRM adoption and use of Microsoft 365. The ideal candidate will be excited to roll out a new CRM database for the charity to have long term impact.
Experience of alumni engagement, line management and knowledge of the UK Jewish community would be advantageous, but above all we are looking for someone who is collaborative, proactive and energised by the opportunity to make a lasting impact for Jewish students across the UK.
