Job Description
Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Head of Foundation Year Programmes on a 0.4 FTE basis. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and maintain our foundation year portfolio, which we currently offer in partnership with Cardinal Newman College, Preston (domestic students), and the INTO International Study Centre (international students).

You will serve as the primary academic contact between the University and its partners. You will ensure that all students receive a high-quality academic experience that prepares them for entry to the relevant Lancaster degree programme, including by chairing the Academic Management Boards, which bring together key stakeholders from within the University and its partners. You will also work with departments to encourage them to develop transition plans to ease students into their degree-level study. Finally, you will act as an ambassador for the programmes, supporting recruitment activities and promoting them to an external audience.

Responsibilities
  • Chair Academic Management Boards and coordinate with partners to ensure high-quality academic experience for foundation year students.
  • Collaborate with departments to develop transition plans to ease progression to degree-level study.
  • Act as an ambassador for the programmes, supporting recruitment activities and promoting them externally.
Terms, salary and conditions
  • 0.4 FTE for three years in the first instance.
  • Salary: responsibility allowance of £2,000 per annum; department will receive a salary adjustment for time spent on this role.
  • The role is available on a secondment basis; 0.4 FTE of your time will be spent on these duties.
  • The initial term is three years, with potential renewal based on performance.
Who can apply

You will already hold an academic contract in a relevant discipline. Applications are by letter of no more than two pages setting out why you want the role and how you meet the personal specification. A CV must also be included. Applications must be submitted using the Lancaster jobs portal, and you must receive the permission of your Head of Department (or School) in order to apply for this role.

Informal enquiries can be made to Prof Alisdair A. Gillespie, University Academic Dean ().
