Job Description

Role: Head of Fleet Engineering

Salary: £100,000 + Benefits

Location: Flexible, Willingness to travel as and when required

We're seeking a visionary Head of Fleet and Engineering to ensure that our clients rolling stock operations are consistently delivering safety, reliability, cleanliness, and value. This pivotal role is perfect for a strategic thinker with deep industry expertise and a passion for leading change.


As the Head of Fleet and Engineering, you'll be instrumental in delivering operational excellence. You'll lead the charge in supplier management, engineering oversight, and performance optimization - ensuring fleets are where they need to be, when they need to be, and in top condition.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Fleet Delivery & Oversight: Lead the operational delivery of rolling stock fleets, ensuring safety, reliability, and cleanliness through effective partnerships with service and leasing providers.
  • Contract & Compliance Management: Oversee high-value contracts with suppliers, ensuring alignment with industry standards, safety regulations, and business objectives.
  • Performance & Budget Management: Drive efficient budget oversight and ensure robust reporting of fleet performance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and cost-effectiveness.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Inspire and manage a skilled team, foster strong relationships across industry stakeholders, and provide expert engineering insight at the senior level.


About You:

  • Expertise: You bring a deep understanding of UK rolling stock operations, maintenance standards, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Leadership: Proven senior management experience with a strong record of supplier relationship management and cross-functional leadership.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and lead in a complex, stakeholder-rich environment.
  • Qualifications: Degree-level education in engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience in the rail industry).
  • Mindset: A proactive, improvement-driven leader who thrives on solving complex challenges and delivering sustainable results.
