Head of Drama / Performing Arts - Permanent Role - South East London

Choice Teachers are working with a fantastic client in South East London who are seeking to appoint an ambitious and experienced Head of Drama / Performing Arts on a permanent basis from September 2026.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a strong Drama specialist who is passionate about delivering outstanding teaching, leading engaging productions, and driving standards within a creative Performing Arts department. Please note, this role is not suitable for ECTs.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for leading the Drama / Performing Arts department, raising attainment, and inspiring students through high-quality teaching and performance opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Drama / Performing Arts department
  • Deliver high-quality Drama lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Successfully teach GCSE Drama to a strong standard
  • Direct and oversee school productions and performances
  • Drive curriculum development and improve student outcomes
  • Monitor progress and ensure high standards of teaching and learning
  • Support, develop and inspire colleagues within the department
  • Create a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment
  • Contribute to wider school leadership and enrichment opportunities
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • QTS and a relevant degree qualification
  • Proven experience teaching Drama at GCSE level (essential)
  • Experience of leadership or a strong desire to step into a leadership role
  • Excellent subject knowledge in Drama and Performing Arts
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
  • A track record of raising achievement and improving outcomes
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and diversity
  • Passion for inspiring young people through performance
