Job Description
Head of Commercial (Somerset or Suffolk)

As the Head of Commercial, you will be fully responsible for the commercial governance of Specialist Passenger Solutions (SPS), including the leadership and management of contracts, suppliers, tenders, and negotiations.

The Head of Commercial will serve as the primary point of contact for commercial matters related to contracts within the business. You will work closely and proactively with stakeholders at all levels, across all teams within SPS and its supply chain, to optimize commercial benefits.

The position can be based at our offices in Somerset or Suffolk but will cover both areas.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide line management for the Commercial Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Management Accountant to ensure sound commercial and financial management of SPS.
  • Organize quoting and tendering processes for supplier selection.
  • Manage contracts post-award, including ongoing relationships, negotiations, and reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC3 contract requirements, maintaining strong relationships and meeting SPS business objectives.
  • Evaluate existing systems and implement improvements to generate optimal commercial value for SPS and clients.
  • Ensure all principal accountabilities for the contract commercial team are executed according to client procedures.
  • Assess and engage with the supply chain based on collaborative principles to ensure value for the client and SPS.
  • Conduct accurate supplier assessments, manage information exchange via procurement portals, and oversee tender preparation, evaluation, and negotiation.
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure timely submissions, including management and submission of Payment Applications.
  • Manage relationships with SPS's IT stakeholders and support providers, including procurement of hardware and software.

Skills & Experience

  • At least 3 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and health and safety IT systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Understanding of Social Value principles in supply chain management and procurement.
  • Flexible working hours to accommodate a 24/7 operation.
  • Ability to support and lead behavioral culture change initiatives in a large, complex, multi-shift environment.

Qualifications & Knowledge

  • Valid driving license.
  • Highly numerate.
  • Experience in stakeholder and relationship management at senior levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365.
  • Experience with NEC3 contract management.
  • Management Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of the transport sector or a similar industry.
