A unique opportunity to join the Household of the Prince and Princess of Wales as Head of Collections, Records and Correspondence.

  • Location: London
  • Salary: £50,000 per annum
About the role

Manage the collections and archival records of the Household of the Prince and Princess of Wales, ensuring the timely delivery of collections management activities, including documentation, inventory audits, location and movement control, object care and storage, collections management systems updating and reporting, while also leading and supporting Kensington Palace's correspondence and gift activities.

Kensington Palace operates as an independent household with its own team, processes, standards and objectives, with the aim of working ever more closely with the wider Royal Household's team, building alignment and cooperation.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Providing day-to-day leadership to the existing team and processes in collections management, inventory, and archiving gifts and correspondence.
  • Reviewing, developing and implementing policy, processes, systems and practices, addressing challenges and bottlenecks.
  • Driving excellence and efficiency in processing, delivery, timeliness of responses, object care and records management.
  • Building effective relationships with colleagues in the Household and at the wider Royal Household, Royal Collection Trust and other external vendors.
  • Coordinating with appropriate team members in Private Secretaries, Visits & Events, Private team and Operations.

This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to complete a review of strengths and challenges and develop a clear plan outlining priorities, which will further develop effective management processes and define future ways of working.

Who we are looking for

The successful applicant will inspire the trust, confidence and patience of all key stakeholders. Balancing the management of day-to-day activities with the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities, the post-holder will lead a long-term strategic approach to change in this area.

You will bring experience gained within multiple broad management and planning roles, including a track record of:

  • Knowledge of the principles of collections care, management, and documentation.
  • Proven experience of working with collections, archives or records management systems.
  • Understanding of the objectives, structure, design and management of robust systems for managing public and private inventories, collections, archives and correspondence/gifts flows and storage.
  • Recruiting, retaining, managing and developing a positive, cross-functional team.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate clearly and positively with a range of internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Deep knowledge of relevant external systems and processes, state-of-the-art upgrades, data and challenges in each of these functions.
  • Ability to analyse issues and options, react quickly to events, bring confidence to all that priorities are set and that results will be delivered.
  • Strong team and functional management, including budgeting, setting priorities, recruitment and team management.
